BALTIMORE (AP) – A man has been charged in the Christmas death of a 7-month-old baby girl in Baltimore.
Court documents and police confirmed Herbert Miller, 24, was charged with child abuse and assault following the death of Harlem Phillips on Christmas morning, news outlets reported.
Baltimore police said Phillips was taken to a hospital Dec. 22. A caregiver told doctors the girl was unconscious and unresponsive after falling off a sofa. Doctors later said her injuries were “consistent with that of babies who had been shaken.”
“Doctors called out homicide detectives and told them that the baby actually died as a result of blunt force trauma,” Baltimore police Detective Danny Moses said.
Authorities haven’t specified Miller’s relation to the child.
Miller is scheduled for a court appearance in January. It’s unclear whether he had an attorney who could speak for him.
