LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – Overnight shootings have left two people dead at a northwestern Indiana convenience store, police said.
Tippecanoe County sheriff’s deputies were called to a Family Express store in Lafayette about 7:20 p.m. Sunday after a 911 caller reported shots fired there, said Sgt. Kim Riley with Indiana State Police.
When officers arrived, one person was dead inside the store and an armed person was outside the store by its gasoline pumps, Riley said in a news release.
Deputies tried to detain that person, but shots were fired and that individual was killed, Riley said.
State police did not immediately disclose who shot the two shooting victims at the store. The victims’ identities have also not been released.
State police are handling the shooting investigation at the request of Tippecanoe County’s sheriff.
