Report: Montana could potentially lose additional House seat in census undercount

A recent American Statistical Association report revealed that Montana is one of two states that could lose a potential seat in the House of Representatives as a result of the Sept. 30 enumeration deadline.

The American Statistical Association is a professional association that supports the development of statistical science through publications, advocacy and education.

After temporarily halting field operations in March to prevent the spread of COVID-19, in April the Census Bureau announced it would extend the deadline for counting people from July 31 to Oct. 31. However, in August the Bureau said it would move its deadline back to Sept. 30.
