Blinken faces House lawmakers in first hearing on Afghanistan exit

Lawmakers had their first opportunity to hold members of the Biden administration accountable for the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan when members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee question Secretary of State Anthony Blinken Monday afternoon.

It was the beginning of a series of congressional hearings to investigate America’s longest war. Blinken is scheduled to appear Tuesday before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Blinken began his testimony by defending the administration’s decision to end the conflict and applauding the successful efforts to evacuate more than124,000 people.
