Fort Peck, UM Create New Pathway to Business Degree

Students at Fort Peck Community College can now transfer directly into a bachelor’s degree program at the University of Montana College of Business under a new agreement between the two schools.

The articulation agreement creates a 2+2 pathway for students who earn either an administration associate degree or a technology associate of applied science degree at Fort Peck. Those students can transfer to UM and complete a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in business management in two additional years.

The program is designed to let students remain in northeast Montana while completing their degree. UM’s business management program is available fully online and asynchronously, allowing students to continue working and living in their communities. Students can also choose to study in person in Missoula.

“This partnership means a student can start in Poplar and finish with a business degree without having to choose between their education and their community,” said Suzanne Tilleman, dean of the UM College of Business.

Fort Peck Community College was chartered by the Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes in 1978 and serves the Fort Peck Reservation and surrounding communities from campuses in Poplar and Wolf Point.

Under the agreement, students are encouraged to apply to UM by Nov. 1 for fall admission to receive the best consideration for financial aid and scholarships. Applicants can indicate whether they plan to attend online or in person, select business management as their major and complete their associate degree by the end of the semester in which they apply.

Students who transfer before completing the associate degree can still pursue the business management major after earning 20 credits.

The bachelor’s program requires 120 credits, including at least 60 credits in business courses and 39 credits at the upper-division level.

The UM College of Business also offers seven other majors and provides career-support services for students. The college said 94% of its alumni are employed or enrolled in graduate school within six months of graduation.
