Missoula County sheriff fined for taking prohibited corporate campaign contributions

Missoula County Sheriff Terry “T.J.” McDermott will pay a $936 fine as a result of a campaign complaint.

Montana’s commissioner of political practices released two settlements associated with the 2014 Missoula County sheriff’s race on Monday in response to a public records request.

The complaint was filed by former Missoula County Undersheriff Josh Clark after he lost the Democratic primary against McDermott. He said the sheriff had illegally accepted corporate campaign contributions from the Missoula law firm Datsopoulos, MacDonald and Lind.
