Amtrak to close Shelby, Havre ticket counters

Amtrak will close two ticket counters in Montana in early June with company officials citing the decision as a cost-saving move and the fact 90 percent of riders are buying tickets online or via telephone.

The counter at the Havre station will close June 1 and the Shelby ticket counter will close June 3, an Amtrak spokesman said. Five employees will be affected by the change.

Not everyone is all aboard with the decision as it prompted Shelby officials to send Amtrak a letter asking them to reconsider, adding the changes would cost the community jobs and revenue.
