MISSOULA, Mont. — The deadline for the Miss Montana to Normandy project is only days away. Crews are working around the clock to make sure the historic DC-3/47 is ready for the trip to Normandy, France, to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day and honor the 57,000 Montanans who served in the war.
The plane is being restored for the mission after being on static display at the Museum of Mountain Flying in Missoula for 18 years.
Bill Schonemann is a former pilot and Vietnam veteran. He is one of the many volunteers working on the project. For him, getting this warbird ready to return to the skies for the D-Day anniversary is more than a labor of love.
