Amazon recently gave customers a heads-up that scammers are sending emails about Amazon Prime subscriptions to solicit sensitive information.
In a warning email, Amazon said the fake emails mention unexpected automatic subscription renewals at odd prices and “cancel subscription” buttons that lead to fake login pages in an effort to get the victim to enter sensitive financial information.
The scam emails, Amazon said, can also include some of the victim’s personal information taken from other sources to seem more legitimate. The warning comes amid the commerce giant’s summer Prime Day sale, which started Tuesday and runs through Friday.
Amazon has not yet responded to a Washington Times request for comment on whether the amount of phishing emails has notably increased during the ongoing sale.
