A Missoula waste company is officially protesting Republic Service’s purchase of a family-run East Helena waste company.
The reason? Monopoly concerns, Missoula-based Grizzly Disposal and Recycling claims.
“When you control the landfill, you control the prices,” said Billy Fisher, Grizzly’s general manager. “We already dealt with this in Missoula.”

Locals, like the people of East Helena, often used it as an alternative to the publicly managed Lewis and Clark County Landfill.
Tri-County also offered private garbage and waste collection services, including in Helena’s city limits, Lewis and Clark County Public Works Director Jenny Chambers said.
