In May, the Trump administration announced it was launching a Title IX investigation into California’s high school sports governing body, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).

In late June, the Department of Education announced that its investigation revealed that the state had, in fact, violated the civil rights law provision that prohibits educational institutions that receive federal funding from discriminating on the basis of sex. The ED offered the California Department of Education (CDE) and CIF a proposed resolution to rectify the violation and 10 days to accept same. California, however, decided to thumb its nose at the offer and double down on its discriminatory stance.
