David Cabrera is a real piece of work. A Guatemalan national, Cabrera has entered the United States illegally at least three times. He initially snuck into the United States in 2014, during the Obama administration. He was convicted of felony rape in 2015 and sentenced to 7 years in prison, but was released to ICE and deported in 2017. He snuck back in again at some point – when is not clear – and was arrested for a parole violation and sent back to Guatemala again in 2020, under the first Trump administration.

At some point, he snuck back in for a third time. Now, this year, he was picked up again – and, despite having an ICE detainer, was set free by the “sanctuary” jurisdiction of Arlington County, Virginia, forcing ICE agents to pick him up on the street.
