A hiking trail in Tupper Lake, New York, is still closed as a bull moose remains in place, a month after state officials closed it for the same reason.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said Friday that the moose is residing along the Goodman Mountain trail and is engaging in strange behavior, though officials didn’t specify what the adult male moose was doing.
The situation hadn’t changed as of Wednesday, DEC spokeswoman Lori Severino told The Post-Star, a Glens Falls newspaper.
“It was bedded directly in the middle of the trail,” DEC wildlife biologist Paul Jensen told the Adirondack Explorer.
DEC believes the moose may have an illness affecting its behavior, and as such the trail has been closed since June 6 to protect the animal and people who could have interacted with him.
