I don’t know how Shane Gillis managed to secure the hosting gig for this year’s ESPN ESPY awards, but I’m glad he did because it was absolutely hilarious. I’m also pretty sure some executive is going to get fired over it because the network’s DEI department had to be pulling its hair out.

If you know anything about Gillis, he’s not exactly politically correct, and ESPN’s editorial bent is firmly to the left. Still, he did not hold back, delivering jokes you simply aren’t supposed to make in 2025. In one of the funniest moments of the night, he introduced “4x WNBA All-Star Brittany Hicks,” and the audience clapped like seals. The punchline? That was actually the name of his friend’s wife.
No one actually watches the WNBA.
