Starbucks increases mandatory in-office attendance

Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol said that some office employees will soon be required to come into the office four days a week.

Previously, Starbucks had mandated a minimum of three days of in-office work weekly.

In his letter this week, Mr. Niccol said that the new policy will begin at the start of the next fiscal year at the end of September, and that “support partners and people managers” will have to come in Monday through Thursday at a minimum.

Starbucks has support centers in Seattle and Toronto, and regionally-focused offices located across North America.

Starbucks employees at the vice president level or higher were asked to relocate to Seattle or Toronto earlier this year. Mr. Niccol also said this week that any “people leaders” working elsewhere will have to be based in Seattle or Toronto within 12 months.

Mr. Niccol was not required to relocate when he was hired.
