Angi Bruce resigned as director of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department effective immediately Friday, moving to a newly created position in Gov. Mark Gordon’s office.
Bruce, who became the agency’s first female director when she took over in 2024, will begin her new role, titled “director of special policy initiatives,” on Monday. Gordon’s office announced the resignation and new appointment in a five-sentence statement that did not explain the reason for the sudden change.
Amy Edmonds, a spokesperson for the governor, said Friday she could not discuss the reason for the transition because it is a personnel matter.
Eric Wiltanger, the department’s deputy director, has been named interim director.
Bruce’s roughly two-year tenure was marked by controversy, including disputes over wildlife migration corridor protections, and by a rift between field-level staff and leadership at the agency’s Cheyenne headquarters.
Gordon’s term as governor ends in January.
