The Idaho Department of Commerce has announced the formation of a new Rural Services team aimed at enhancing support for rural communities across the state.
Leading the team is Jerry Miller, a seasoned economic development professional with over 29 years of experience at Idaho Commerce. As the Rural Services Manager, Miller will spearhead initiatives designed to bolster rural communities and support more than 180,000 small businesses. Key programs under this new team will include the Idaho Gem Grant, Idaho Main Street Program, the Rural Impact Strategy, and the Idaho Rural Partnership (IRP).
“Rural communities are the backbone of our nation,” Miller stated. “They provide the food, fiber, fuel, and recreational opportunities that are essential to our economy. The creation of the Rural Services team is an important step in ensuring the continued success of the Gem State for future generations.”
Miller is also active in several organizations, serving on the boards of the Community Development Council and Rural Development Initiatives, and is the president of the Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) Idaho Chapter, which supports families of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
Joining Miller on the team is Jenny Hemly, who brings 23 years of experience in economic development, including the last decade at Idaho Commerce. As a Rural Services Specialist, Hemly has a track record of providing tailored consulting to support the growth of businesses and communities statewide. She is also a board member of the Rotary Club of Boise-Downtown and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho.
“Supporting Idaho businesses starts with empowering Idaho communities,” Hemly said. “I am excited to join the Rural Services team to help our rural areas thrive, drive job creation, and strengthen local economies.”
Idaho Commerce Director Tom Kealey emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The Rural Services team is a timely new endeavor for our department. We aim to meet the evolving needs of our communities and businesses, and this team will enhance our focus on rural Idaho and strengthen our community programs and initiatives.”
The formation of the Rural Services team marks a significant commitment by the Idaho Department of Commerce to ensure the vibrancy and prosperity of rural communities throughout the state.
