Trump’s megabill is in real trouble, as House GOP defectors vote ‘no’ on advancing it

House Republican leadership does not appear to have enough votes to advance President Donald Trump’s megabill in the House. It is unclear whether Speaker Mike Johnson can pressure enough of his party’s holdouts to drop their opposition, and get the massive package over the finish line. Any changes to the House version of the bill would send it back to the Senate for approval, almost certainly blowing past Republicans’ self-imposed July 4 deadline.

President Donald Trump’s signature tax and spending bill is on the verge of suffering a significant blow, as House Republican leaders appear unable to secure enough votes within their own party to move the massive package to a final vote on the floor.
