East Helena woman killed on York Road identified

A woman who died early Saturday on York Road was identified Tuesday by Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton as a 41-year-old East Helena resident.

Mary Peterson’s cause of death was listed as a motor vehicle accident with the manner as blunt-force trauma, Dutton said.

The sheriff said Peterson exited a vehicle she was traveling in due to an argument with the driver. Earlier reports state the incident occurred about 1 a.m.

“She began to walk in the middle of the road, at night. A vehicle traveling the opposite direction struck her,” the sheriff said.

Emergency responders transported her to St. Peter’s Emergency Room.
