Burning closes, Lewis and Clark County sheriff to reevaluate at end of August

Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said Tuesday the burning of debris and organic material was closed for the next two months due to possible breakout fires.

The sheriff said in an email he spoke with the Lewis and Clark Rural Fire Council and said they would reevaluate how dry combustible organic materials were at the end of August for a possible lifting of the ban.

The rationale for this two-month closure is the dry conditions of the grass and wood. If we were to have a fire, the chance of us getting it under control is greatly diminished because of the dry conditions,” Dutton said.
