$300K grant gives Lewis and Clark County Courthouse elevator project a lift

The Lewis and Clark County Courthouse received a $300,000 grant to help fund a nearly $1 million elevator project to improve the reliability and accessibility of the current system, which is now 41 years old, state officials said Wednesday.

The grant came through the Montana Department of Commerce’s Montana Historic Preservation Grant Program. Other funds will be used for historic sites and history museums throughout 21 communities and 31 sites, the department said.

“This program stimulates economic development, community renewal and statewide tourism through increased investment, job creation or retention, business expansion and local tax base growth,” Montana DOC Deputy Director Mandy Rambo said in a news release.

The grant, in conjunction with the county’s capital improvement program, will fund the project.
