A Helena man with no active warrants was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement on Tuesday while on his way home from work after multiple traffic stops.
Christopher Martinez, 31, a father of four, was detained by federal officers with Helena police officers beside them.
Helena Police Chief Brett Petty and Lt. Adam Shanks spoke to a group of people who gathered outside the Law and Justice Center on Tuesday afternoon.
Petty denied having members of the department embedded in ICE, despite claims by the public.
Law enforcement officials said there was an investigation involving the Helena Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service, Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Border Patrol into a suspect, Anderson DeJesus Bastidas Linares, who had an active felony warrant for assault with a weapon and partner or family member assault.
