‘I want my dad back’: Residents air out concerns to Lewis and Clark County Commissioners over Helena man’s ICE arrest

Advocates in support of Christopher Martinez, a Helena man detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement July 1, urged Lewis and Clark County Commissioners on Thursday to investigate how it was handled, expressing shock over the arrest.

Commissioners Andy Hunthausen, Tom Rolfe and Chair Candace Payne listened to the comments made over 80 minutes by people who asked them to determine what role the county sheriff’s office played in the incident.

“I want my dad back,” Martinez’s daughter, Lourdes, told the commissioners.

Martinez, 31, was arrested July 1 after being stopped by Helena police for expired registration. He was informed by law enforcement he matched the description of two suspects being investigated by federal and local agents, court documents filed by attorneys on behalf of Martinez said.
