Victim of fatal hit-and-run in Butte identified

The name of a pedestrian killed in an early Saturday morning hit-and-run incident in Butte was released Sunday.

The victim was 39-year-old Duncan Brass of Butte, authorities said. He was positively identified by the Butte-Silver Bow Coroner’s Office with help from Butte police and the Montana Highway Patrol.

Police say Brass was struck and killed by a vehicle around 12:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Locust and Garfield streets on the Flats and the motorist drove off without stopping.

The suspect vehicle and driver were not located and police said Sunday afternoon the case remains under investigation.

Brass was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel, Sheriff Ed Lester said Saturday, and his body was transported to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy.
