Weekend tragedy in Butte ends in apparent suicide

A person of interest believed to be involved in the hit-and-run fatality that occurred early Saturday in Butte died Sunday night as a result of an apparent suicide, authorities said.

Butte-Silver Bow Sheriff Ed Lester said Butte police located what is believed to be the suspect vehicle early Sunday morning and spoke to a person of interest in the accident investigation as well.

A vehicle struck Duncan Brass, 39, who was on foot, at around 12:30 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Locust and Garfield streets. The motorist did not stop, and Brass was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Our thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones, as they deal with the tragic events of this past weekend,” Lester said.

Lester said additional information about the incident and the subsequent investigation is not being released at this time.
