Things of intrinsic worth

Recently a Montana poet among us crossed the great divide to greener pastures. I’m speaking of Wallace McRae, and I borrowed the title of this week’s column from one of his poems. I’d like to think he’d be pleased that these stories I’m about to share with you evoked that particular turn of phrase.

My first story is about a group of kids, parents and grandparents from Spring Creek 4-H Club. As fair was approaching, Susan Snyder, a co-leader of the club, got a wild notion to resurrect a past fair tradition — a kid-run concessions stand. No doubt this raised a few parents’ eyebrows!
