2 new lifts are almost done at Big Sky Resort, and one of them finally has a name.
Workers are still laying the steel on the upper terminal of the new “powder seeker” lift.
The grade work is already done on the new high tech, heated and covered seat lift.
Overall work on the 2 new lifts is about 75% complete.
“Bottom terminals are complete. Upper terminals are 50% or more. What’s left to do is string the haul rope and splice that, which is a fun and fascinating process, then hang chairs and wire them, then wire the whole machine on both lifts. That doesn’t sound like a lot in the big scheme of things, it’s not, but it’s very detailed work,” said Mike Unruh, mountain operations director.
The deadline for the new powder seeker lift to be done is November 15th. That’s when the load testing and safety tests begin.
Big Sky plans to open on Thanksgiving day.
