State revenue department provides update on Montana tax returns and refunds

The state’s Department of Revenue reported Wednesday that it has processed 212,899 individual income tax returns so far for the 2016 tax year.

Refunds issued so far number 141,317, and the average refund totaled $447.16, the department said in a written release, adding that some refunds are taking longer due to extra security put in place to stem fraudulent tax return filings.

Taxpayers can go to www.revenue.mt.gov to find information on the status of their refund and read the answers to frequently asked questions about refunds in general.
