The Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) celebrated the graduation of three new troopers during a ceremony held in Helena on Friday. The event marked the official commissioning of the recruits, who completed the rigorous 79th MHP Advanced Academy.
Attorney General Austin Knudsen and MHP Colonel Kurt Sager addressed the newly minted troopers before they received their badges and took their oaths of office.
“I’m proud to welcome these dedicated individuals to the Montana Highway Patrol,” Attorney General Knudsen said. “Their training has equipped them to tackle the challenges of law enforcement and keep our roads and communities safe. I am confident they will excel in their new roles.”
Colonel Sager also expressed his confidence in the new troopers, stating, “Our new troopers are ready to serve Montana’s citizens with dedication and professionalism. I look forward to working with them and supporting them throughout their careers with the Patrol.”
The three new troopers, all Montana natives, have completed an intensive 24-week training program at the academy. Their initial duty stations and hometowns are as follows:
– Harlee Berg – Glendive / Poplar, MT
– Stefan Karchut – Kalispell / Kalispell, MT
– Bradley Smith – Helena / Helena, MT
The Montana Highway Patrol is actively recruiting for additional trooper positions through September 22.
