The Grand Forks community marked a milestone this week with the official ribbon cutting of the Grand Forks Career Impact Academy, a $30.5 million career and technical education facility designed to connect students with hands-on learning aligned to regional and statewide workforce needs.
Located near Gateway Drive and 42nd Street, the facility will welcome students in grades 10–12 beginning August 28, along with programming for college students and adult learners. Career areas offered include automotive technology, precision agriculture, culinary arts, medical careers, IT and computer science, robotics, engineering, architecture, building trades, and more.
The Academy is intended to serve as a workforce pipeline, partnering with higher education institutions including the University of North Dakota, Northland Community and Technical College, Mayville State University, and Lake Region State College. Students will have the opportunity to transition seamlessly from high school programs to post-secondary education and careers in high-demand fields.
The project received extensive community support, including more than $11 million in contributions from over 90 local businesses, organizations, and individuals. The facility is designed to provide active, hands-on learning experiences, preparing students for careers essential to the region’s economic growth.
The Grand Forks Region Economic Development Corporation called the Academy “a game-changer for workforce development,” highlighting the collaboration between educators, industry partners, and volunteers that brought the project to fruition.
The Career Impact Academy represents a long-term investment in the region’s workforce, innovation, and economic prosperity, aiming to equip students and adult learners with the skills needed for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
