President Donald Trump has signed three pieces of legislation aimed at improving services, support, and accountability for veterans. The new laws address housing, funding transparency, and vocational training for those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The Disabled Veterans Housing Support Act (H.R. 224) amends the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 to exclude service-connected disability compensation when determining whether an individual qualifies as low or moderate income. Supporters say the measure ensures veterans receiving disability benefits are not unfairly disqualified from housing programs designed to assist those in need.
The VA Budget Shortfall Accountability Act (H.R. 1823) requires the Department of Veterans Affairs to report on certain funding shortfalls, increasing transparency and oversight of VA resources. Lawmakers and advocates contend the measure will help prevent gaps in critical services for veterans.
The Focused Assistance and Skills Training for Veterans’ Employment and Transition Success Act (H.R. 4446), also known as the FAST VETS Act, establishes guidelines for redeveloping a veteran’s vocational rehabilitation plan. The law ensures that veterans have access to updated and individualized training programs tailored to their employment and transition needs.
“These laws demonstrate our commitment to supporting veterans in every stage of their post-service lives,” a White House spokesperson said. “From housing to job training to ensuring accountability in VA funding, the administration is working to make sure veterans have the resources they deserve.”
The legislation collectively represents a coordinated effort to strengthen support for veterans, improve transparency, and enhance opportunities for those transitioning from military service into civilian life.
