Wyoming DEQ Releases 2025 State of the Environment Report

The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality has released its 2025 State of the Environment Report, highlighting the agency’s work over the past year in air monitoring, water management, land reclamation and regulatory compliance.

According to the agency, the report focuses on DEQ’s core responsibilities across air, land, waste and water, while also pointing to ongoing restoration and remediation efforts around the state. The department says the publication is meant to show both recent accomplishments and continuing work tied to environmental stewardship and oversight.

State officials said the report details progress in areas including air-quality oversight, water-quality management, mine reclamation and compliance activities. Summaries of the report said it highlights more than 3,860 acres of coal mine land returned to productive post-mining use and continued federal air-quality attainment in the Upper Green River Basin.

The department framed the report as part of its broader mission to protect, conserve and enhance Wyoming’s environment while balancing that work with the state’s resource-based economy. DEQ says its activities range from monitoring and permitting to inspection, enforcement and restoration.

The annual report serves as one of the agency’s main public snapshots of environmental conditions and departmental performance. Wyoming DEQ has published similar reports in prior years, using the report to outline both accomplishments and ongoing environmental priorities across the state.
