The College of Letters and Science at Montana State University will honor six faculty authors who have recently published books during a special reception on Thursday, Dec. 5. The event, free and open to the public, will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Alumni Foundation’s Great Room at 1501 S. 11th Ave.
The evening will include a featured discussion between Yves Idzerda, dean of the College of Letters and Science, and Catherine Dunlop, associate professor in the Department of History and Philosophy. Dunlop will discuss her newly released book, The Mistral: A Windswept History of Modern France, which explores how the powerful mistral wind of southern France challenged key principles of 19th-century European society, such as order and predictability.
In addition to Dunlop’s work, the reception will highlight the following faculty and their publications:
- Jean Arthur, teaching professor in the Department of English, Top Trails: Glacier National Park: 42 Must-Do Hikes for Everyone, second edition.
- Elizabeth Burroughs, professor and head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences: An Aspirational Approach to the Mathematical Education of Teachers.
- Galen Brokaw, professor and head of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, Nahua Studies Past and Present.
- Wyatt Cross, professor in the Department of Ecology, Foundations of Stream and River Ecology: A Guide to the Classic Literature.
- Li Hua, professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, Chinese Science Fiction: Concepts, Forms and Histories.
The reception celebrates the diverse scholarly contributions of MSU faculty and provides an opportunity for the community to engage with their research and creative achievements.
