More than 700 faculty, students, staff and community members packed the Strand Union Ballroom on Wednesday evening to welcome Brock Tessman, Montana State University’s 13th president, in his first public appearance.
The event marked a new chapter for MSU. Tessman steps into the role after the departure of Waded Cruzado, who left earlier this summer after 15 years at the university’s helm.
“This is such a great day to be a Bobcat,” Tessman said during his opening remarks.
Tessman comes to MSU from Northern Michigan University, where he served as the school’s 17th president beginning in February 2023. At NMU, Tessman oversaw steady enrollment growth and record retention rates, financial stability with top-tier bond ratings, unprecedented private giving, and the completion of major capital projects, according to MSU.
