Governor Gianforte Honors Valley County Veterans

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte joined the 38th annual Governor’s Cup Walleye Tournament on Fort Peck Lake this past weekend, and before putting his boat in the water he recognized two local veterans who have made a difference in their communities since serving the United States of America.

Governor Gianforte made a stop at the Northeast Montana Veterans Memorial on July 10 to recognize Chief Master Sergeant Arthur “Art” Widhalm, of Glasgow, and Sergeant Virgil Nelson, of Opheim, with the 2024 Montana Governor’s Veteran Commendation. Both veterans received a Montana state flag flown over the Capitol in their honor and a letter from the governor recognizing their service.

“Montana veterans don’t just serve in uniform, they serve for life,” Gov. Gianforte said. “These four veterans have answered the call again and again, showing up for their neighbors, strengthening their communities, and reminding us all what service truly means.”
