Montana woman loses $1,700 in social media scam, warnings issued for similar scams

This is the time of year people get excited about winning cash from a number of contests.

Hannah Stiff is the Montana Marketplace Manager for the Better Business Bureau, and says many Montanans are getting notices they have won contests through e-mail, phone calls and pop-up messages on the internet.

“Maybe it’s money. Maybe it’s a trip. You might even be told you have won a house. However, what these scams don’t tell you, is that you can’t win if you don’t play. That’s what people need to realize before they click the link or get more invested. They should make sure they have entered these different sweepstakes or lotteries in the first place,” warns Stiff.
