U.S. Sen. Steve Daines was a cosponsor to a resolution introduced Monday that allows the Senate to dismiss articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump after 25 days for lack of prosecution.
The proposal, introduced by Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Missouri, is a move to force House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to play her hand.
When the trial will begin, and how long it will last, is in limbo because Pelosi has not turned over the impeachment articles to the Senate.
The House Speaker has said she wants to ensure the Senate proceeds in a fair manner.
“It’s time to challenge Nancy Pelosi’s assault on the Constitution,” Hawley said Monday morning on Twitter. “Today I’m introducing a change to the Senate rules to force Pelosi & the Dems to send the Senate the impeachment articles for trial — or have them dismissed.”
